Thank You from the DCHS Band and Boosters
Our Corporate Sponsors really get us thru the year. They donated $500 or more for an ad in the football program. Those include Janey & Associates, Middle Tennessee Natural Gas, Architectural Custom Cabinetry, DeKalb Community Bank, and Wal-Mart. The Corporate Sponsors are the true backbone of our financial being. Ms Teresa Sullivan, “Ms Money Bags” has the sometimes “un fun” job of handling the money. And she does a wonderful job. THANKS MS TERESA.
Several Business donated goods and services to help us through the year. I’m going to try to list them in no particular order. Glenda at DeKalb Market filled up our ice coolers several (possibly several hundred) times. Bucky and Mapco Express donated more than several gallons of water. Hardees gave us space for several carwashes and donated cups. Advanced Auto donated car wash supplies. Pamida donated space for a car wash. Griffins donated food to feed the kids on trips. Save-A-Lot cut us some great deals on food, as did Luigi’s. Sonic and McDonalds donated cups for water during practice and performances. Tim Staley Construction built our food booth for the Smithville Jamboree this year. Smithville Golf Club, Smithville Builders Supply and Rite Aid helped us along as well. The Band and Boosters would also like to thank Ms Kathy
Hendrix, and Mr. Mark
Willoughby,
the school board, and all the County Officials for The band and boosters would also like to thank our Smithville City Police Department and Sheriff Patrick Ray and his whole Department, for making our kids feel like celebrities after a contest. If you were up late some Saturday night and saw a couple of busses with kids hanging out the windows with Sheriff and Police cars leading them down the road, you know what I’m talking about. WJLE Radio, The Smithville Review and Middle Tennessee Times are always available to help us promote the things that the band is into. Whether it’s a Band Booster meeting, Fundraiser, or just news about the band’s progress the “Smithville Media” is always there to help. Thank you! But we’re still not done. If it weren’t for our staff our kids wouldn’t know what notes to play and where to march. Josh Barnes and Paul Deathrage for leading the percussion section, Tammy Owens, Jamie Smith and Latonya Kleperik for helping the color guard and Donielle Ketchum for helping our field commander. Several Alumni Band members came back to help throughout the year. Josh Redman was around practice almost as much as the students and his help was unmatched. Cory Williams helped with the percussion until he went off to college as did Samantha Emmerson did with the guard. Ashley Hendrix, Brad Tatrow, Kathy Jane Scott and Amanda Scott, served as an extra set of eyes and ears off and on throughout practices and performances. We can’t forget our Fearless Leader, Mr. Chuck Gilbert. He has the hardest job of them all. As the Band Director, not only does he have to teach our kids marching and music but he also has to handle the administrative part of his job. He has to find the best deals on marching and music equipment. He has to schedule when we leave for contests and games, when we’ll return. Keep up with lost uniform pieces, and repair broken instruments. He has to be a mom, dad, friend, boss, cheerleader, therapist, peace maker, psychiatrist, and doctor all rolled up in one. He’s the first to arrive and the last to leave the band room. He goes way beyond the call of duty on a daily basis. He is truly there for our kids and we certainly appreciate him for all he does. There are so many people and business to thank I’m positive that I left someone out. If I left you out I’m sorry. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! Something that you may not know is we have a couple of parents that have taken on the multi-media jobs. Mark Sullivan and Greg Owens have been in our kid’s faces with video cameras all year. That DVD is going to be great. Greg is also the one that handles the web-site duties. Thanks Guys! One final group to thank… the pit crew… A group of moms and dads that move all that heavy equipment at contests and ball games. Without them we would truly be at a stand still. But they don’t JUST move equipment, they are also chaperones, tailors, chefs, medics, repair personnel, and Jacks (and Jills) of all trades. Thank You Very Much. Although we’re done with marching season, we’re not done with band. We still have a Christmas Concert in the works. We have a spring concert, BBQ Dinner and Auction on the way and a percussion ensemble just to name a few. These kids work really hard all year long and we’re super proud of them.
